Son of the Soil

Bangabandhu will live on in the hearts of millions of Bengalis. He led this nation to freedom from years of alien subjugation. He took on the massive task to unite the people. It was not achieved easily, nor did it happen in a day, or a month or a year. He struggled since his student years, which ultimately fulfilled his dream of emancipation of the people.

Before liberation, the majority of our people lived in the rural areas. Bangabandhu as a true son of the soil was connected to his roots and the people. That is why he could speak to the people in their words and reach out to them so easily. The people always felt that he was one of them. The majority of the people could very easily relate to him and his words. The common people always felt one with him as he never lost touch with the soil of his roots. Unlike most other politicians who lose touch with their rural beginnings, Bangabandhu remained close to the people of rural Bangladesh throughout his life. That is why he understood them and their problems so well. He was and forever will remain the ultimate son of the soil of Bangladesh.

The sad wishful thinking will remain forever within our hearts – if only he had been with us for a few more years than we actually had him! We can only conjecture what the country would have been like today if only our people’s leader and the true son of the soil, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Father of our Nation, the founder of independent Bangladesh, who dreamed of a self-governed land for the Bengali people, had been with us a little longer!

Imagine all that he could have achieved for his beloved people and country that he strived so hard to make into reality! Though nothing can compare with the reality of his presence, but the indulgence of our dreams permitting, which may be forgiven as it is not just idle day-dreaming but also a vision of reality, as with his worthy daughter at the helm of the country and the patriotic people of this land at her side, we strive to make his dreams for our motherland come true.

জন্মহার ও মৃত্যুহার কোনো দেশের জনসংখ্যা বৃদ্ধির অন্যতম প্রধান নিয়ন্ত্রক। কোনো দেশের জন্মহার ও মৃত্যুহার বিভিন্ন কারনের উপর নির্ভর করে। কোনো নিদিষ্ট সংখ্যক মানুষ নিদিষ্ট সময়ে যত জন শিশুর জন্ম দেয়, তার হারকে জন্মহার বলা হয়। জন্মহার নির্নয়ের বিভিন্ন পদ্ধতির মধ্যে অন্যতম একটি পদ্ধতি হল স্থূল জন্মহার।

স্থূল জন্মহার – প্রতি ১০০০ জন মানুষ পিছু সাধারণত এক বছরে যত জন জীবিত শিশুর জন্ম হয়, তাকে স্থূল জন্মহার বলে।

উদাহরণ – ২০১৯ সালে ভারতের জন্মহার ১৭.৮ জন/হাজার

বৈশিষ্ট্য

ক) জন্মহারের উপর নির্ভর করে জনসংখ্যা বৃদ্ধির প্রকৃতি নির্ধারিত হয়।

খ) জন্মহারের প্রকৃতি বিভিন্ন আর্থ-সামাজিক প্রকৃতির উপর নির্ভরশীল। যথা – শিক্ষার মান, মাথাপিছু আয়, পরিবার পরিকল্পনা, অবসর সময়, ধর্মীয় গোঁড়ামি ও কুসংস্কার প্রভৃতি।

গ) সময়ের উপর নির্ভর করে দেশের জন্মহার পরিবর্তিত হয়।

ঘ) ধনাত্মক জন্মহার জনাধিক্য অবস্থা এবং ঋনাত্মক জন্মহার জনস্বল্পতা অবস্থার সৃষ্টি করে।

মৃত্যুহার – জনসংখ্যা পরিবর্তনের একটি উপাদান বা নিয়ন্ত্রক হল মরণশীলতা বা মৃত্যুহার।  একটি নিদিষ্ট সময়ে যে জনসংখ্যার মৃত্যু হয়, তার হার কে মৃত্যুহার বলে। এই হার সাধারণত প্রতি হাজারে বা শতকরা হারে প্রকাশ করা হয়।

স্থূল মৃত্যুহার  – প্রতি হাজার জন মানুষ পিছু একবছরে যত জন লোক মারা যায়, তাকে স্থূল মৃত্যুহার বলে।

উদাহরণ – ২০১৭ সালে ভারতের মৃত্যুহার ৭.২১ জন/হাজার

বৈশিষ্ট্য – ক) মৃত্যুহার জন্মহারের তুলনায় অধিক হলে জনসংখ্যা হ্রাস পায়।

খ) দারিদ্রতা, অপুষ্টি, চিকিৎসার অবনতি প্রভৃতি মৃত্যুহারকে ত্বরান্বিত করে।

গ) মৃত্যুহার কোন দেশের বয়স-লিঙ্গ পিরামিড ও লিঙ্গ অনুপাতকে পরিবর্তিত করে।

ঘ) সময়ভেদে কোনো দেশের মৃত্যুহার পরিবর্তিত হয়।  

জন্মহার ও মৃত্যুহারের প্রধান প্রধান পার্থক্য গুলি হল –

1. সংজ্ঞাগত পার্থক্য

➤প্রতি এক হাজার জন মানুষ পিছু কত জন জীবন্ত শিশুর জন্ম হয়, তাকে জন্মহার বলে।

➤অন্যদিকে একটি নিদিষ্ট সময়ে প্রতি ১০০০ হাজারে কত জন লোক মারা যায়, তাকে মৃত্যুহার বলে।

2.জনসংখ্যার বৃদ্ধি- হ্রাস গত পার্থক্য

➤জন্মহারের পরিমান বৃদ্ধি পেলে জনসংখ্যা বৃদ্ধি পায়।

➤অন্যদিকে মৃত্যু হার বাড়লে জনসংখ্যা হ্রাস পায়।

3. আর্থ-সামাজিক অবস্থা

➤উচ্চ জন্মহার অনিয়ন্ত্রিত জন্মহারকে নির্দেশ করে। নিম্ন জন্মহার উন্নত আর্থ-সামাজিক চরিত্রকে প্রকাশ করে।

➤অন্যদিকে উচ্চ মৃত্যুহার অনুন্নত চিকিৎসা ব্যবস্থার প্রতিফলক এবং  নিম্ন মৃত্যুহার চিকিৎসা ব্যবস্থার সূলভ বিকাশকে ইঙ্গিত করে।

বিভিন্ন অর্থনৈতিক, সামাজিক, ধর্মীয় এবং রাজনৈতিক কারণের জন্য ভারতের জনসংখ্যা দ্রুত গতিতে বেড়ে চলেছে। ভারতের জনবৃদ্ধির প্রত্যক্ষ ও পরােক্ষ কারণগুলাে হল –

(১) অধিক জন্মহার : জন্মহারের আধিক্যের জন্য ভারতের জনসংখ্যা বৃদ্ধির হারও স্বাভাবিকভাবেই বেশি। 

(২) মৃত্যুর হার কমে যাওয়া : বর্তমানে যুগে সারা বিশ্বেই চিকিৎসাবিজ্ঞানের অভূতপূর্ব উন্নতি ঘটায় জন্মহারের তুলনায় মৃত্যুহার কমে যাওয়া ভারতের জনসংখ্যা বৃদ্ধির অন্যতম কারণ। 

(৩) অল্প বয়সে বিবাহ : কয়েকটি ব্যতিক্রম ছাড়া ভারতের বেশির ভাগ গ্রামাঞ্চলে ছেলে-মেয়েদের অল্প বয়সে বিয়ে হয়, যা ভারতে জনসংখ্যার অত্যধিক বৃদ্ধিতে সহায়তা করে। 

(৪) দারিদ্র্য ও স্বল্প শিক্ষার হার : ভারতের গ্রামগুলােতে বিশেষ করে নারী শিক্ষার হার এখনও বেশ কম (৩৯.২৯%) হওয়ায় নানান বিষয়ে অজ্ঞতা ও ধর্মীয় কুসংস্কার ভারতের জনসংখ্যা বৃদ্ধির অন্যতম কারণ। এছাড়া, ভারতের বেশির ভাগ অধিবাসীই দরিদ্র, তাই অর্থনৈতিক নিরাপত্তার আশায় দরিদ্র পরিবারগুলাের

জনসংখ্যা অত্যধিক হারে বৃদ্ধি পায়। 

(৫) বিপুল সংখ্যায় অবৈধ অনুপ্রবেশ ও শরণার্থী আগমন : বহুদিন ধরেই বিভিন্ন অর্থনৈতিক ও রাজনৈতিক কারণে প্রতিবেশী দেশগুলি থেকে বিপুল সংখ্যায় অবৈধ অনুপ্রবেশ ও শরণার্থী আগমনের ফলে বিশেষত সীমান্ত অঞ্চলগুলিতে জনবিস্ফোরণ ঘটেছে।

অন্যদিকে, ভারতে জনবৃদ্ধির অন্যান্য কারণের মধ্যে উল্লেখযােগ্য হল : (৬) কৃষিভিত্তিক সমাজব্যবস্থা ও যৌথ সামাজিক প্রথা, (৭) সমাজে মেয়েদের মতামতের স্বল্প মর্যাদা, (৮) পুত্র সন্তান কামনা, (৯) প্রতিবেশী রাষ্ট্র থেকে উদ্বাস্তু এবং অনুপ্রবেশকারী আগমন সমস্যা প্রভৃতি।
